President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to embark on his first official overseas visit to New Delhi for discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This visit follows an invitation from Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, who is the first high-ranking foreign dignitary to meet Dissanayake since he took office after winning the presidential election on September 21.

Strengthening India-Sri Lanka Relations

The Indian High Commission has stated that Jaishankar’s visit emphasizes India’s “neighbourhood first” policy and SAGAR outlook. This highlights the shared commitment between India and Sri Lanka to strengthen their long-standing partnership for mutual benefit.

During the discussions, Jaishankar is expected to focus on Indian-funded projects in Sri Lanka and their future development. Following this meeting, he will extend an official invitation for President Dissanayake to visit New Delhi, a customary practice for previous Sri Lankan leaders.
