In a shocking case of high-level fraud, Indian police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as an ambassador and operated a fake embassy from a rented home near New Delhi. The accused reportedly duped innocent job seekers by offering fake overseas employment opportunities.

Fake Diplomatic Setup Busted in Uttar Pradesh

According to the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh, the suspect, Harshvardhan Jain, aged 47, had transformed a residential building into a bogus diplomatic office complete with international flags, forged seals, and doctored photos with world leaders.

Senior police officer Sushil Ghule stated that Jain impersonated an ambassador and claimed to represent obscure entities like “Seborga” and “Westarctica”, misleading victims into believing they were engaging with a real embassy.

Bogus Diplomatic Plates, Forged Seals, and Cash Recovered

During the raid, police recovered:

  • 4 luxury vehicles with fake diplomatic number plates

  • 4.5 million Indian rupees (approx. $52,000) in cash

  • Foreign currency from various countries

  • Fake stamps and seals of India’s Ministry of External Affairs and over 30 other nations

  • Doctored images showing Jain with global leaders

Charges Include Forgery, Impersonation, and Money Laundering

Authorities have filed serious charges against Harshvardhan Jain, including:

  • Forgery

  • Criminal impersonation

  • Use of counterfeit documents

  • Suspected international money laundering through shell companies

Police believe Jain may have created a network of fake organizations to illegally move money overseas while luring victims with job offers and diplomatic roles.

Building Decorated Like a Real Embassy

The rented property, according to investigators, was designed to resemble a real embassy, displaying flags of multiple countries and maintaining the appearance of a legitimate diplomatic mission.

Conclusion

The case highlights the growing threat of fake embassies and impersonation scams in India. Authorities urge citizens to verify foreign job offers and cross-check embassy credentials before proceeding with any payments or documentation.
