The legal counsel for the minor accused in the Dwarka road accident, which resulted in the death of 23-year-old Sahil Dhaneshra, has appealed for compassion toward the teenager, citing academic stress and emotional trauma.

Defense Highlights Academic Pressure and Trauma

Lal Singh Thakur, the defense lawyer, stated that the accused has been struggling to focus on his Class 10 board examinations while facing threatening calls following the fatal collision. He emphasized that the minor’s decision not to flee the scene demonstrates responsible behavior despite the severity of the incident.

Thakur said, “This is a tragic and painful incident. The family, especially the child, has been under tremendous stress and trauma. He is a diligent student and a gold medalist, yet this accident has heavily impacted his life.”

Case Details and Interim Bail

The minor, apprehended at the scene without a driving license, was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and sent to an Observation Home. The JJB later granted him interim bail, allowing him to continue his board exam preparations.

Thakur requested that the matter be treated with sensitivity and not as a media trial. He highlighted the significant pressure on the family, mentioning that they received over 1,400 threatening calls since the accident.

“The family is cooperating fully with authorities, but the intense media scrutiny and threats risk affecting the child’s wellbeing,” Thakur added.

Incident Overview

The accident occurred when a car, allegedly driven by the juvenile, collided with Sahil Dhaneshra’s motorcycle near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka South, Delhi, and subsequently hit a parked vehicle. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, stressing that speculations should be avoided while the legal process unfolds.
