Red Alert for Palghar, Pune, and Nashik Ghats
In its latest advisory, the IMD has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Palghar district and the Ghat areas of Nashik and Pune, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places. The situation is being closely monitored as river water levels have crossed danger marks, posing flood threats.
Orange Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and More
An orange alert has been announced for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Nashik, Ratnagiri, and the Ghats of Satara district, indicating heavy to very heavy rain. These alerts are effective until 8:30 am on July 20.
Rivers Overflowing in Several Regions
- In Raigad, the Amba and Kundalika rivers have risen above the danger mark.
- A warning has also been issued for the Patalganga river.
- In Ratnagiri, the Jagbudi river is flowing above safe levels, and floodwater has entered nearby towns.
- The Indrayani river and others in western Maharashtra are also experiencing flood-like conditions.
- In Nashik, the Godavari river has swelled due to intense rainfall in its catchment area.
Villages Affected, Roads Cut Off in Sindhudurg
In Sindhudurg district, rising water from the Hateri river has cut off access to Nadar village in Kudal tehsil. Authorities are working to restore connectivity and provide relief.
Temples and Areas Submerged Due to Overflow
- A temple in Nashik was seen submerged under the Godavari river, highlighting the intensity of the rainfall.
- In Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area, the Morya Gosavi Ganpati Temple faced waterlogging after Pawna Lake overflowed.
Landslide in Ratnagiri, People Relocated
A landslide occurred in Kuchambe village in Sangmeshwar tehsil of Ratnagiri district, prompting the evacuation of villagers to safer areas. Locals are currently using an iron bridge nearby to move across affected zones.
Rainfall Stats: Mumbai Receives Highest Rainfall
According to the Maharashtra State Disaster Management Cell:
- Mumbai city recorded 142.6 mm of rain — the highest in the state in the past 24 hours (as of 11 am).
- Raigad received 134.1 mm, followed by Palghar with 120.9 mm, Thane with 90.3 mm, and Mumbai Suburban with 60.5 mm.
